On January 10, 2023, a successful training launch of the Prithvi-II Short-Range Ballistic Missile was made from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. The Prithvi-II missile, a proven system, has been a crucial component of India’s nuclear deterrence.
High precision was achieved when the missile hit its objective. All of the missile’s operational and technical parameters were successfully validated by the launch of the user combat mission.
The Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) developed the short-range, surface-to-surface Prithvi II missile. It is a constituent of India’s Prithvi missile system, which also comprises of the Dhanush, Prithvi-I, Prithvi-II, and Prithvi-III. Prithvi II is also known as ‘Game Changer’ as it enhaces India’s strategic capabilities & deters potential adversaries.
The Prithvi II is a nuclear-capable missile that was built indigenously and has a payload capacity of up to 500 kilogrames. It can transport both conventional and nuclear warheads and has a 350-kilometer range. The missile has a high-thrust engine and a liquid propulsion system.
