BRO constructs road using steel and plastic waste under Waste to Wealth and ‘Save Earth” Initiatives
The third week of the Special Campaign 3.0 implementation phase (02–31 October 2023) and the associated Swachhata Abhiyan have begun at the Department of Defence. Steel slag, a waste byproduct of the steel manufacturing process, was used to build a road by Border Roads Organization (BRO) as part of the best practices used throughout the ongoing Campaign. As part of the Waste to Wealth Initiative, a one km long Joram-Koloriang Road in Arunachal Pradesh was built utilizing 1200 MT of steel slag.
Aware of the need to “Save Earth,” BRO has also taken the initiative to improve the road infrastructure in the high-altitude Sanku region of Ladakh utilizing plastic trash, making the roads more enduring, economical, and environmentally friendly.
