First-ever India-Egypt Joint Training Exercise Start of ‘Cyclone I’ in Rajasthan

Indian - Egyptian joint training exercise Cyclone I

Exercise Cyclone-I, the first combined training session between the special forces of the Indian Army and the Egyptian Army, has been taking place in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, beginning January 14, 2023. The exercise focuses on professional skill sharing and Special Forces interoperability in desert environment while conducting counterterrorism, reconnaissance, raids, and other special operations. It aims to strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries.

The first drill of its sort, Exercise “Cyclone – I,” brings the special forces of the two countries together on a single platform. The 14-day exercise, which is taking place in Rajasthan’s deserts, involves both contingents and aims to improve special forces abilities like sniping, combat free fall, reconnaissance, surveillance, and target designation. It also encourages the exchange of knowledge about new weapons, gear, tactics, techniques, and procedures. Along with cooperative planning and training for Special Forces operations in a mechanised combat environment, the participants would also conduct surgical strikes on terrorist camps and hideouts, including the shooting of High Value Targets.

The joint exercise would advance military cooperation and interoperability and further solidify diplomatic ties between Egypt and India by giving an understanding of the cultures and philosophies of both forces.
