The joint military exercise “Harimau Shakti -2022” between India and Malaysia began on Monday in Pulai, Kluang, Malaysia, and will last through December 12.
Since 2012, the Indian and Malaysian armies have trained together annually in Exercise Harimau Shakti.
According to a statement from the ministry of defence, combat-experienced soldiers from the Indian Army’s Garhwal Rifles Regiment and the Malaysian Army’s Royal Malay Regiment are taking part in the exercise this year to share lessons learned from previous operations and improve interoperability in the planning and execution of various operations in jungle terrain.
The scope of this exercise includes a Company level Field Training Exercise (FTX) on unconventional operations in jungle terrain and a Battalion level Command Planning Exercise (CPX).
According to the statement, in addition to planning logistics at the battalion level, the joint exercise schedule calls for the creation of a joint command post and joint surveillance centre, sharing of expertise in the employment of aerial assets, technical demonstrations, casualty management, and evacuation.
A two-day validation exercise with a focus on advancing tactical abilities and interoperability between the forces and fostering Army-to-Army relations will follow joint field training exercises, joint combat discussions, and demonstrations, according to the release.
According to the ministry, Exercise Harimau Shakti would improve the degree of defence cooperation between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army, which will in turn strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
