BrahMos Aerospace is an Indo-Russian joint venture which produces supersonic cruise missiles. The missiles can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land platforms. A BrahMos missile travels at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost thrice the speed of sound. The extended range BrahMos Air Launch missile was successfully fired by the Indian Air Force on Thursday.
“The missile achieved the targeted mission objectives after carrying out a precise attack against a Ship target from a Su-30 MKI aircraft in the Bay of Bengal region,” the IAF tweeted.
An Indo-Russian joint company called BrahMos Aerospace manufactures supersonic cruise missiles.
The missiles can be fired from land, air, sea, or undersea platforms.
The speed of a BrahMos missile is 2.8 Mach, or approximately three times the speed of sound.
This gives the IAF “substantial capacity increase” to launch precise strikes from SU-30MKI aircraft at very long distances against land or maritime targets.
The Brahmos Air Launched Missile’s Extended Range Version was successfully fired by the IAF.
The missile completed the intended mission objectives by making a precise attack against a Ship target from a Su-30 MKI aircraft in the Bay of Bengal region.
From the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Indian Army tested a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on November 30.
The extended range missile had been tested by the Army’s Western Command.
A few days before to the test launch of the BrahMos missile, India successfully test-fired the Agni V nuclear-capable ballistic missile from the APJ Abdul Kamal Island off the coast of Odisha.
Targets can be hit by the Agni V up to 5,000 kilometres away.
