India declines to reveal forthcoming UN vote on Ukraine

India doesn’t need to say upfront the way it will vote on the United Nations General Assembly on a possible draft decision condemning Russia’s proclaimed annexation of elements of Ukraine, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar mentioned on Monday.

“As a matter of prudence and policy, we don’t predict our votes in advance,” Jaishankar mentioned throughout a joint media briefing together with Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Canberra.

The General Assembly is due to vote on the draft decision on Tuesday or Wednesday, diplomats mentioned.

Russia had vetoed a UN Security Council decision launched by the United States and Albania late final month condemning the proclaimed annexation, with China, Gabon, India and Brazil abstaining.
