India triumphantly completes its premier Female Military Officers Course today for officers from ASEAN nations and the Indian Army, marking an important turning point in its military diplomacy. This program, which was organized under the direction of the Ministry of Defence and was spearheaded by the Indian Army’s vision for gender neutrality and women’s empowerment, was based on the UN framework.
India’s commitment to forging stronger international cooperation and promoting gender equality in the armed services is reinforced by hosting such a transformative course. Given India’s long-standing commitment to the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus, this is extremely important.
The course is intended to improve female officers’ operational effectiveness, strategic thinking, and leadership abilities while providing a wealth of opportunities for cross-cultural engagement. Participants engaged in a stimulating combination of lively workshops, strategic simulations, and knowledgeable lectures.
The course’s framework includes a section on India’s illustrious history in UN peacekeeping. The course was offered by the Centre for UN Peacekeeping in India, which is well-known internationally and has a long history of sending peacekeepers to various UN missions. Participants had the exceptional chance to watch a demonstration of UN peacekeeping exercises, which gave them an understanding of the exacting standards India follows in international peace missions.
In addition to the intellectual and tactical components, participants learned about the fascinating history and culture of India. They took part in the scheduled yoga classes and visited Delhi and Agra’s historic sites. They were also given a tour of the “Made in India” gear that will be used on upcoming UN operations.
As this first project comes to a close, it serves as a monument to India’s developing military diplomacy as well as a ray of hope for closer connections between India and ASEAN and for the future of women around the world in the fields of peacekeeping and defense.
