13 NCC cadets onboard to participate in Puneet Sagar Abhiyan in the region
A specialized pollution control vessel operated by the Indian Coast Guard, the Samudra Prahari, is now deployed overseas to ASEAN nations from 11 September to 14 October 2023. This deployment is a part of India’s ASEAN activities for marine pollution response and showcases the Indian Coast Guard’s (ICG) Pollution Response skills as well as its dedication to tackling marine pollution challenges and building regional capability.
The ship’s capabilities in this region are improved by the addition of a Chetak Helicopter in a Pollution Response configuration. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh made this announcement at the ASEAN Defence Minister Meeting Plus conference in Cambodia in November 2022.
The ship is expected to dock in Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and Jakarta during this trip. It will demonstrate the ICG’s capacity to respond to marine pollution and its commitment to interdisciplinary efforts for such response.
13 NCC cadets have boarded the ship as part of an international exchange program to take part in “Puneet Sagar Abhiyan,” a worldwide outreach initiative that coordinates beach clean-ups and other activities with partner countries.
The Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre and BAKAMLA (Indonesia Maritime Security Agency) are two important maritime organizations with whom this visit will help to improve bilateral ties. In order to maintain the region’s oceans’ safety, security, and cleanliness, these ties have developed over time.During the visit, interactions with senior officials and staff from these agencies will further improve regional safety and security.
Professional interactions, cross-deck visits, planning and tabletop exercises, joint exercises, as well as official and social events, such as visits to capacity-building centers, are all on the itinerary for the visit.
India’s ongoing efforts to promote amicable relations through maritime cooperation are strengthened by the tour of the ICGS Samudra Prahari to ASEAN nations. This is in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s goal to bring the region together, “SAGAR – Security and Growth for All in the Region.” It also references the slogan used by the Indian government to lead the G20, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – One Earth, One Family, One Future.
