The Mission of the Indian Navy When the Malta-flagged vessel MV Ruen was hijacked in the Arabian Sea, deployed platforms reacted quickly. The ship, carrying eighteen crew members, reported the boarding of around six unidentified individuals in a Mayday message posted on the UKMTO portal on December 14, 23.
In response to the unfolding events, the Indian Navy acted quickly, diverting its warship from its anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Aden and its Naval Maritime mission aircraft conducting surveillance in the area to identify and help the MV Ruen. Early on December 15, 23rd, the aircraft overflew the hijacked vessel. Since then, IN planes have been keeping a close eye on the vessel’s movements as it moves closer to the Somali coast.
MV Ruen was intercepted early on December 16, 23 by a warship of the Indian Navy that was on a mission to monitor the Gulf of Aden against pirate activity.
In collaboration with nearby MNF and other authorities, a close watch is kept on the overall state of affairs.
Along with friendly foreign nations and international partners, the Indian Navy is steadfast in its commitment to being the first responder in the area and guaranteeing the safety of commerce vessels.
