From June 11 to June 24, 2023, Chaubatia, Uttarakhand will be the site of the 12th iteration of the joint military exercise “Ex Ekuverin” between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force. An annual bilateral exercise called Ekuverin, which means “Friends,” alternately takes place in India and the Maldives.

The 14-day drill will involve a deployment of the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force with a platoon size. The exercise aims to improve interoperability in counterinsurgency/counterterrorism operations carried out in accordance with UN mandate and conduct coordinated operations for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. The goal is to improve tactical coordination and collaboration between the two armies by exchanging best practises.

The exercise’s 11th iteration took place in the Maldives in December 2021. The two nations’ defence cooperation goes beyond just participating in joint exercises to include helping the Maldives with its equipment and training needs. In terms of economic, cultural, and military cooperation, both countries have very strong and cordial ties. Ex Ekuverin will help to strengthen these ties between the two countries even more.
