On Completion of Dive Training Exercise
After a week-long dive training exercise with the Sri Lankan Navy, the Indian Navy’s diving support and submarine rescue vessel, INS Nireekshak, left Trincomalee on September 21. Divers from both Navies conducted extensive dives in both harbors and at sea. Additionally, there were numerous interactions between the ship’s crew and SLN personnel, including cross-training of personnel on a variety of topics of interest. Officers from the Junior Command & Staff College in Trincomalee toured the ship and received a briefing on its capacity for saturation diving.
The commander of the Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral PS De Silva, paid a visit to the ship and expressed his gratitude for the Indian Navy’s assistance in training SLN divers. He also emphasized the importance of sharing professional knowledge and best practices between the two navies.
A social outreach event was held at a Trincomalee school for impoverished children in addition to training exercises. On International Coastal Cleanup Day, a combined beach cleanup campaign was held at Dutch Beach.
Joint yoga sessions and a friendly basketball game were held with Sri Lankan Naval officers as a sign of harmony and wellness.
More than 1500 personnel toured the ship, which was open to guests. Strong links between the two Navies were further strengthened by the ship’s visit.
