From May 31 to June 2, 2018, INS Trishul made a port visit to Anjouan, Comoros as part of the Indian Navy’s long-range deployment. On May 31, the ship anchored off Anjoun Island, where civil and military leadership met the ship. The Commanding Officer, Captain Kapil Kaushik, visited Anjouan and made official calls to high-ranking government representatives. During its time in port, the ship engaged in business exchanges with the Comoros Armed personnel and Coast Guard, participated in sporting events, and practised yoga alongside the Comoros Defence personnel.
The Comorian Coast Guard members attended a workshop on OBM maintenance. Additionally, the ship helped the Comorian Coast Guard restore communication equipment and a navigation radar display that was installed at the port control. The ship organised a medical outreach clinic for the Anjouan locals.
The camp provided patients with ophthalmic, cardiovascular, and ENT consultations in addition to general health checks, and about 500 people profited from it. Additionally, Comoros Defence troops underwent BLS (Basic Life Saving) training. India’s determination to strengthen bilateral ties and expand maritime security cooperation with neighbouring nations is demonstrated by the port call at Anjoun. Ships from the Indian Navy have historically made frequent trips to the Comoros.
