Military medical and nursing personnel receive training on how to handle emergencies involving Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) weapons.

From February 7 through February 10, 2023, at the Army Hospital, the Medical Branch of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff will hold its 11th Workshop on Medical Management of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Emergencies for medical and nursing officers of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) (Research & Referral). 

The programme is being attended by 60 medical and nursing officers from the NDRF, Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force.

The workshop’s main goal is to prepare aspiring medical professionals for the military to work in CBRN environments, provide emergency care, and manage CBRN exposures over the long term. Experts and scientists from the NDRF, Armed Forces Medical College, Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences, Indian Army, and Indian Air Force will deliver lectures, demonstrate CBRN drills, and provide hands-on instruction in using CBRN equipment.

On today, February 7, 2023, Air Marshal BR Krishna, Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff, officially opened the Workshop. Senior Officers from the Medical Directorates of the three Services, as well as senior professionals from renowned national institutions like the National Center for Disease Control and the National Disaster Management Authority, were also present. Lt Gen AK Jindal, Commandant, Army Hospital (R&R); Air Marshal Rajesh Vaidya, Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Medical); and Senior Officers from the Medical Directorates of the three Services were also present.
