Must be prepared for prolonged wars: IAF Chief

According to Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari on Saturday, the continuing conflict in Ukraine, which broke out in February, has demonstrated the value of putting more effort into long-term operations than short-term war planning.

In response to a query regarding the operational preparedness standards for his organisation, Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari stated that IAF preparations have been made to deliver weapons of our choosing at the AajTak Agenda initiative.

Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar stated that despite evaluating the potential of a tri-services rank structure, his force is concentrating on getting rid of outdated rules and practises.

We are determining which procedures are unnecessary. We may make some staff adjustments. For example, he said we are thinking about changing the ranks and making it a common tri-services sort of rank/nomination.

Our sailors are ranked as petty officers. What is petty, exactly? What makes a petty officer a good choice? Above him, a chief petty officer is seated. Why should they be the only ones, chief petty officers? We can improve their reputation. Similar to this, certain outdated laws still hold true. He went on to say that we are changing them.

He added that the crisis in Ukraine has underscored the value of having air superiority over combat areas.

In response to a question about what lessons India can draw from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine given that Moscow has yet to achieve its goal after a nine-month military offensive, Chaudhari said it is premature to draw complete lessons from the war, but that three-four important aspects have emerged based on available information.

He stressed the importance of establishing air superiority over the battle zone in the first place.

The Air Chief Marshal added that the conflict’s outcome is uncertain and that the length of the attack has military repercussions.

We once prepared for swift and decisive wars. Now is the time to get ready for long-lasting warfare. We must increase the scope of our logistics, technology, and strategies, he stated.
