Today, February 10, 2023, saw the 11th meeting of the India-Mongolia Joint Working Group in New Delhi.
The two sides discussed how to strengthen already existing areas of collaboration and laid out concrete steps in this regard while also reviewing the status of several bilateral defence cooperation programmes.
Despite the limits caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, both parties acknowledged their pleasure with the continuous defence collaboration between the two nations during the conference.
The Joint Working Group convened for the first time in person since the outbreak, co-chaired by Brigadier General Gankhuyag Davagdorj, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Mongolia, and Dr. Ajay Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, India.
The expanding relations between the two nations were recognised by both parties.
You may remember that India and Mongolia established diplomatic ties in 1955.
In Ulaanbaatar, the Indian Resident Mission first opened its doors in 1971.
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mongolia in 2015 and deemed it a crucial aspect of his “Act East Policy,” the relationship was elevated to a “strategic alliance.”
