DRDO successfully tested a ballistic missile called "Agni Prime."

On June 7, 2023, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight test of the New Generation Ballistic Missile “Agni Prime” from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. All objectives were satisfactorily proven during the flight test.

After three productive missile development tests, this was the first pre-induction night launch carried out by the users, proving the precision and dependability of the system. In order to gather flight data covering the complete trajectory of the vehicle, range instrumentation like radar, telemetry, and electro optical tracking systems were deployed at various sites, including two down-range ships, at the terminal position.

Senior officials from DRDO and Strategic Forces Command witnessed the successful flight-test, which has paved the way for induction of the system into the Armed Forces.

Kshatriya Mantri DRDO and the Armed Forces have received congratulations from Shri Rajnath Singh for the success and model performance of the New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime.

Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary Department of Defence R&D & Chairman DRDO, expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the DRDO laboratory personnel and the test launch participants.
