Shri KSC Lyer, who retired on May 23, was replaced as Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) at IHQ MoD (Navy) by Shri P Upadhyay, INAS. Shri P Upadhyay is a member of the Indian Naval Armament Service’s 1987 batch. On 12 July 1989, he joined the Naval Armament Organisation of the Indian Navy. He received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from SGSITS Indore, followed by postgraduate degrees in mechanical engineering with a focus on guided missiles from University of Pune in 1995 and electrical engineering with a focus on digital techniques and instrumentation from Devi Ahilya University in 1988. He has held a number of significant positions over a 34-year period at NAD (Visakhapatnam), NAD (Karanja), NAD (Trombay), NAD (Alwayse), and IHQ, MoD(N).He graduated from NDC-53’s Naval Defence College. The officer has extensive knowledge of ammunition disposal in addition to being an expert in missile and torpedo maintenance. On June 1st 2023, he takes over as Director General of Naval Armament.
