THE INDIAN NAVY’S SWIFT REACTION TO THE MV LILA NORFOLK’S HIJACKING ATTEMPT IN THE NORTH ARABIAN SEA

The Indian Navy moved quickly to stop the seizure of the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier MV Lila Norfolk, deploying a sizable force of ships and planes as well as an aggressive plan to repel the pirate onslaught.

By 1515 hours, the guided missile destroyer INS Chennai had reached the site. Continuous aerial reconnaissance of the MV Lila Norfolk was conducted by integrated helicopters, MQ9B (Sea Guardian), and P8I. The Indian Navy Marine Commandos then boarded the MV Lila Norfolk and thoroughly sanitized the living areas, mechanical rooms, and upper decks. On board, the crew did not come into any pirates. It is possible that the pirates were forced to flee throughout the night after receiving strong warnings from Indian Naval aircraft and maybe being intercepted by an IN warship.

The MV Lila Norfolk’s 21 crew members have all been saved and are now safe. Indian naval personnel are looking into the possible warships in the region. The MV team is currently working on repairing the power supply, steering gear, and propulsion. MV Lila Norfolk will then resume her journey to her destination while being escorted by the Indian Naval Warship.
