On March 24, 2023, the Ministry of Defence and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Hyderabad, inked a contract for the purchase of two integrated electronic warfare systems, or “Project Himshakti,” for a total of about Rs 3,000 crore.
The initiative falls into the category of “Buy Indian – IDMM (Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Made),” which includes cutting-edge and specialised technologies.
“Project Himshakti” will promote participation from MSMEs, who are BEL’s subcontractors, as well as Indian Electronics and related businesses.
During the course of two years, it will produce about three lakh man-days of employment.
According to the government’s Make-in-India effort, the project represents a significant advancement in creating indigenous capabilities and turning the nation into “Aatmanirbhar.”
