AMPHEX 2023, the biennial Tri-Services Amphibious Exercise, took place at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, from January 17 to 22. To improve interoperability and synergy, AMPHEX aims to jointly train personnel from all three services in many aspects of amphibious operations. The exercise was conducted for the first time in Kakinada during AMPHEX 23, which was also the biggest AMPHEX to date. Over the course of five days, the participating forces conducted challenging drills in all areas of amphibious operations.
In the presence of the Force Commanders of the Indian Navy and Indian Army, Vice Adm Sanjay Vatsayan, AVSM, NM, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, assessed the exercise’s successful amphibious assault, which served as its climax.
Several amphibious ships from the Indian Navy, including the Large Platform Dock (LPD), Landing Ships, and Landing Crafts, Marine Commandos (MARCOS), helicopters, and planes, participated in the drill. Over 900 members of the Indian Army, including Special Forces, Artillery, and Armoured vehicles, took part in the drill. IAF C 130 and Jaguar fighter planes took part in the exercise as well.
The amphibious capabilities and outstanding cooperation between the three Services to carry out the entire range of amphibious operations were successfully displayed during AMPHEX 2023.
