On April 17, 23, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan took over as Controller of Personnel Services. The Flag Officer is an expert in communication and electronic warfare and was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1st, 1987. He graduated from the United States Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, as well as the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, the College of Naval Warfare in Karanja, and the Joint Services Command and Staff College in Shrivenham, United Kingdom. The Admiral, who has received both the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal, has held a number of important operational, staffing, and training positions throughout his naval career, including command of the missile corvettes INS Kulish and INS Vidyut , the guided missile destroyer INS Mysore; and the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.
He played a significant role in the management of all training in the Indian Navy after being promoted to the Flag rank and taking the position of Chief Staff Officer (Training) at Headquarters Southern Naval Command, Kochi. He played a key role in establishing the Indian Navy Safety Team, which is in charge of ensuring operational safety throughout the Navy’s many branches. After leading the Navy’s work-up organisation as Flag Officer Sea Training, he had the honour of being selected for the incredibly important position of Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet. He tenanted the assignment of Flag Officer Offshore Defence Advisory Group and Advisor Offshore Security and Defence to the Government of India after commanding the Sword Arm.
Later, he was given the role of Chief of Staff of the Western Naval Command, which he retained until taking on his current responsibility. Along with a BSc in science from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, an MSc in telecommunications from Cochin University of Science and Technology in Kochi, an MA in defence studies from King’s College in London, an MPhil in strategic studies from Mumbai University, and a PhD in international studies from Mumbai University, Admiral Swaminathan has an impressive educational background.
