Sweden confirms Nord Stream leaks as sabotage

A recent investigation by Swedish prosecutors has found traces of explosives near the damaged Nord Stream 1 & Nord Stream 2 pipelines that linked Germany and Russia via the Baltic Sea.

The prosecutor’s office declined to further comment on the matter.

Denmark & Sweden are investigating the four holes in both pipes which resulted in a massive drop in Natural Gas supply to Europe from Russian Federation.

Denmark last month said a preliminary investigation had shown that leaks were caused by powerful explosives. Seismologists in Denmark and Sweden previously said that they have registered tremors near the leaks which are not that of an earthquake.

Russian defense ministry blamed the United Kingdom for the sabotage and said that it was British navy personnel who blew up the pipelines.

The UK rejected the claim and insisted that claims were designed to distract from Russian military failure in Ukraine.

Nord Stream 1 & Nord Stream 2 were the major source of Gas supply to Europe from Russia, after the damages we have seen a significant drop in the supply of Gas.  Germany was most impacted by this as it was the major consumer of Gas from these pipelines. Importing Gas from the USA or the Middle East is not only costlier but also takes more time which is a major burden on the German economy.
