According to a report from Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, American drone flights over the Baltic Sea are evidence that Washington is directly involved in a fight with Russia.
In the first known direct military confrontation between the two countries since Russia’s start of its conflict in Ukraine last year, a U.S. drone last week crashed into the ocean after being intercepted by Russian Su-27 fighter fighters.
According to a TV interview with Peskov, “it is fairly evident what these drones are doing, and their objective is absolutely not a peaceful mission to safeguard the safety of ships in international waters,” according to Interfax news agency.
“And in fact, we are talking about the direct involvement of the operators of these drones in the conflict, and against us.”
The drone was on a surveillance mission in international airspace on Tuesday when the incident occurred, and according to the United States, the Russian planes harassed it and poured fuel on it before one of them clipped its propeller and caused it to fall.
According to Russia, the drone breached airspace regulations and became uncontrollable after making a fast turn.
In a sharp retort to U.S. claims that the incident revealed pilots’ recklessness and perhaps incompetence, Russia’s defence minister gave honours to the implicated airmen.
In order to wage war on Russia and hand it a “strategic defeat,” according to Moscow, the United States and its allies are utilising the conflict in Ukraine.
According to Washington, it is assisting Ukraine in defending itself against a provocative Russian invasion.
