Elon Musk, a multibillionaire, declared in a filing on Monday that he will lead Twitter, the social media platform he just paid $44 billion for.
The action follows Mr. Musk’s firing of Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal and other top company executives last week. Mr. Musk also owns Tesla Inc. and SpaceX.
In response to news that Mr. Musk had been appointed as Twitter’s only director, he tweeted, “This is simply temporary.”
In an allusion to this, Mr. Musk earlier altered his Twitter bio to read “Chief Twit.”

The $44 billion acquisition of the social networking business by Mr. Musk last week put an end to a many months-long saga.
Since that time, Mr. Musk has moved swiftly to start implementing improvements at the company, which he has long derided for being reluctant to roll out new products or delete spam accounts.
According to two people with knowledge of the situation, Mr. Musk’s teams started meeting with some employees to look at the software code of Twitter and comprehend how various components of the site operated.
Some employees who talked with Reuters claimed they hadn’t heard much from Mr. Musk or other executives and relied on news stories to put together what was occurring at the business.
