On the intervening nights of August 16 and 17, the Indian Coast Guard successfully performed a medical evacuation of a Chinese national from the MV Dong Fang Kan Tan No 2, a Panama-flagged research vessel, 200 kilometers off Mumbai. Instability in the weather and a gloomy night made the evacuation difficult.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai was informed that Yin Weigyang, a crew member aboard the research vessel, had suffered a heart arrest and needed immediate medical assistance. The vessel, which was sailing from China to the UAE, was contacted right away, and the essential telemedicine advise was given.
The patient was evacuated by CG ALH MK-III and given first aid while considering the best practical options for rapid evacuation and future medical management. Later, he was moved to the vessel’s agency for additional medical care.
A valuable life of a foreign national was saved at sea thanks to the quick action taken by CG ALH and CGAS Daman during the night, reiterating the Indian Coast Guard’s dedication to the motto “We Protect.”
