More than 2000 Indians in the UAE joined Sunjay Sudhir, the Indian ambassador to the UAE, in reading the Constitution’s Preamble on Saturday in honour of Constitution Day.
Participants included kids—the youngest was four years old—teachers, parents, and people from all the communities in the United Arab Emirates.
The ambassador emphasised the significance of Constitution Day and urged Indians to reaffirm and recommit to the ideals and principles set forth in the Indian Constitution.
Additionally, he praised the work of the Constituent Assembly and the people who drafted the Indian Constitution.
At a Constitution Day celebration in New Delhi on Saturday, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud stated that the Constitution’s formulation and India’s independence from colonial rule were two concurrent endeavours.
The Chief Justice of India declared that “the protracted battle for independence ended with the end of the colonial reign and the emergence of an independent nation governed by self-rule.”
“Our Constitution is a social contract entered into between those who are in power, historically, and those who are oppressed and sought to change the power hegemony and choose to govern themselves,” CJI Chandrachud said.
Samvidhan Divas, usually referred to as Constitution Day, is a holiday commemorating the adoption of the Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949.
Every law passed by the parliament can be subject to interpretation by the Supreme Court, which is a distinctive characteristic of the Indian Constitution, the cornerstone of India’s democracy.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the Supreme Court’s Constitution Day programme and announced several e-court project efforts. He said that the day is observed to remember the Constitution’s adoption by the Constituent Assembly in 1949.
On this auspicious occasion, PM Modi congratulated all of the people of India for their contributions to the construction and growth of the Indian Constitution over the past 70 decades, highlighting the work of innumerable members of the Legislature, Judiciary, and Executive.
The Prime Minister emphasised that, given the state of the globe today, the world is hopeful in light of India’s expanding economy and positive worldwide reputation.
India is moving forward with full force and taking pride in its variety, he claimed, despite all initial concerns about its stability.
He credited the Constitution for this success. Continuing further, the Prime Minister referred to the first three words of the Preamble, ‘We the People, and said, ‘We the people is a call, trust, and an oath. This spirit of the constitution is the spirit of India, which has been the mother of democracy in the world”, he said. “In the modern time, the Constitution has embraced all the cultural and moral emotions of the nation.”
PM Modi also expressed satisfaction, saying that as the Mother of Democracy, the nation is advancing the principles of the constitution and empowering the underprivileged and women of the nation through pro-people policies.
He stated that the judiciary is taking various initiatives to promote prompt justice and that laws are being made simpler and more accessible for the folks.
