Aatmanirbhar Bharat: Hindustan Shipyard Limited, Visakhapatnam, and the MoD sign a contract worth over Rs 900 crore for the Sindhukirti Submarine’s routine maintenance.

By signing a contract for the normal refit of the Sindhukirti submarine at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, on March 13, 2023, the Ministry of Defence gave “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” additional impetus. The contract is expected to cost Rs 934 crore. Third Kilo Class Diesel Electric Submarine Sindhukirti. Sindhukirti will be combat capable after the refit is complete and will join the Indian Navy’s operational submarine fleet.

This refit has been offloaded in order to create a different submarine repair facility and is an additional step towards completing a Medium refurbishment with Life Certification at HSL. More than 20 Micro Small and Medium Businesses are involved in the project (MSMEs) and would lead to employment generation of 1,000 mandays per day for the project duration.
