AS ‘YEAR OF NAVAL CIVILIANS’
The Indian Navy has proclaimed 2024 as the “Year of Naval Civilians,” with the goal of enhancing the management, effectiveness, and welfare of naval civilians by promptly addressing every aspect of civilian HR management. The adoption of digital initiatives, general and specialized training programs, welfare measures, and maximizing administrative efficiency have been selected as key emphasis areas for 2024.
About one-third of the Indian Navy’s manpower is made up of naval civilians, who greatly enhance the force’s operational efficacy in all areas. The effectiveness of many naval formations, including Command Headquarters, Dockyards, Material Organizations, Naval Armament Depots, Naval Armament Inspectorates, Training Establishments, and several other support units, is affected by the presence of civilian personnel.
Several programs have been developed and put into operation in the past to improve employee happiness and organizational effectiveness for civilian staff members. To ensure, however, that they effectively contribute to ensuring that the Indian Navy always stays a battle ready, credible, cohesive, and future proof force, it is vital that impetus be provided to their administration, training, welfare, etc. A step in this manner is to designate 2024 as their year.
