In order to create a comprehensive defence industrial ecosystem in the nation, the Indian government announced the creation of two Defense Industrial Corridors (DICs) in its budget proposal for 2018–19.
One corridor has been established in Tamil Nadu with five nodes, namely Chennai, Hosur, Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruchirappalli, and the other has been established in Uttar Pradesh with six nodes, namely Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, and Lucknow.
108 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), with a total potential investment of Rs. 12,191 crore, have been signed, according to information from the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
The Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor has already received investment of Rs 2,445 crore (UPDIC).
Also, according to information from the Tamil Nadu government, preparations have been made with 53 industries through MoUs and other agreements for a possible investment of Rs 11,794 crore.
Tamil Nadu Defense Industrial Corridor has already seen investment of Rs 3,894 crore (TNDIC).
No new Defense Industrial Corridors are being proposed for the nation.
