The Indian Navy’s outreach program for a high level virtual contact with Maritime Heads for Active Security and Growth for All in the Region is called MAHASAGAR, which is also another word for huge ocean.
Adm R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, met with Heads of Navies/Maritime Agencies and Senior Leadership from IOR littorals, i.e., Bangladesh, Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania, during the first-ever high-level virtual interaction MAHASAGAR, which was hosted by the Indian Navy on November 29, 2023. The theme of the interaction was “Collective Maritime Approach towards Countering Common Challenges,” which emphasizes the urgent need to harmonize and cooperate in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) in order to achieve the Government of India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision.
The attending countries’ principals had an open discussion about shared maritime issues and the necessity of finding cooperative solutions to them. ‘Regional Solutions to Regional Problems’ were emphasized by Adm R Hari Kumar, CNS.
