On March 19, 2023, in Male, the Maldives and India held their fourth Defense Cooperation Dialogue (DCD). Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane and his Maldivian counterpart, Chief of Defense Force, Maldives National Defence Forces Major General Abdulla Shamaal, served as co-chairs of the discussion.

The DCD is the most institutionalised form of interaction between the two nations. The attention placed on the negotiations by the two countries underlines their significance in determining the future direction of relations between the two Military Forces. Both parties were pleased with the growing interactions as they discussed ongoing bilateral defence cooperation initiatives during the conversation. The discussions touched on the ongoing bilateral drills, and both nations agreed to make them more difficult.

The continued pursuit of bilateral collaboration by the Indian and Maldivian armed forces in a number of areas is encouraging for the future of the two countries’ relations.

Major General Abdulla Shamaal and his delegation were congratulated for a productive conversation by Shri Giridhar Aramane, who added that India looks forward to further interaction based on the consensus achieved at the 4th DCD.
