The first iteration of the bilateral air drill “Veer Guardian 2023” between the Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) came to an end in Japan on January 26.
While the IAF contingent participated with Su-30 MKI aircraft, the JASDF took part with its F-2 and F-15 aircraft. One IL-78 Flight Refueling Aircraft and two C-17 Globemaster strategic airlift transport aircraft were added to the IAF fighter contingent.
The two Air Forces engaged in intricate and thorough aerial manoeuvres throughout the 16-day joint training in a variety of realistic operational circumstances. Both air forces’ precision planning and deft execution were required for the exercise.
In both visual and beyond visual range situations, the IAF and JASDF participated in air combat manoeuvring, interception, and air defence missions. To better comprehend one another’s operating philosophies, the two participating Air Forces’ pilots also flew in each other’s fighter jets.
The chance to improve communication between the two Air Forces came through the exercise “Veer Guardian 2023.” Numerous ground interactions between IAF and JASDF soldiers occurred during the exercise, and both sides discussed a variety of topics. The participating contingents were thus able to get crucial insight into one another’s finest practises and benefit from one another’s distinctive qualities.
