The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, officially launched Vindhyagiri, the sixth Stealth Frigate of Project 17A being built at GRSE. A feeling of joy raced through the group as Vindhyagiri dove into the river Hoogly. The appreciation for the ship and the team behind her construction was shared by dignitaries, sailors, shipbuilders, and spectators. Distinguished West Bengal Governor Shri CV Ananda Bose, Chief Minister of West Bengal Ms. Mamata Banerjee, and Shri Ajay Bhatt Several dignitaries, including Raksha Rajya Mantri, Admiral R. Hari Kumar, Chief of Naval Staff, and other senior officers from the Indian Navy and MoD, attended the launch ceremony.
M/s GRSE has a history of numerous successful conventional launches and has earned a reputation as a dependable partner of the Indian Navy. The launch of Vindhyagiri marks yet another significant turning point in the Shipyard’s illustrious history and demonstrates its dedication to producing high-caliber warships. After being launched, “Vindhyagiri” will join its two sister ships at the GRSE Outfitting Jetty to advance the last-minute tasks and equipment trials leading up to its delivery and commissioning.
17A Project The Project 17 (Shivalik Class) Frigates were followed by the Frigates, which include better stealth features, cutting-edge weaponry & sensors, and platform management systems. Seven Construction on the Project 17A Frigates is in varying phases at GRSE and MDL. The Warship Design Bureau’s skill in creating technologically cutting-edge warships for the Indian Navy is also on display in the design of the Advanced Stealth Frigates. With the launch, the country’s in-house engineering talents and knowledge receive a significant boost, lowering India’s dependency on foreign suppliers, boosting independence, and developing a strong defense industrial base. In keeping with the government’s goal of a “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat,” more than 75% of Project 17A’s orders have been given to domestic companies, including MSMEs. Positive side effects of the shipbuilding project include economic growth, employment creation, the expansion of MSMEs, and support industries in the nation.
During the event, the Hon’ble President of India conveyed her profound satisfaction and heartfelt appreciation for the remarkable achievements of the Warship Design Bureau and other Naval Teams, for fulfilling the nation’s aspiration of self-reliance in warship building. She also praised GRSE for its steadfast dedication to the development of warships. The Indian Navy’s ability to successfully carry out its ship induction plan and establish itself as a powerful force in the Indian Ocean Region has been greatly facilitated by the shipyard effort. She hoped that as Vindhyagiri made its first contact with the waters of the mighty Hooghly, it would take power from the very mountains it was named after and sail with unflinching determination, preserving the principles we hold dear. She was emphasizing the significance of the freshly christened ship. May this vessel stand as a strong symbol of our dedication to maintaining national security as well as our hope for a bright future.
