India has despatched additional relief supplies and equipment to assist earthquake-affected people in the wake of Monday’s devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Assistance has been sent to Turkey :

Four C-17 of the Indian Air Force (IAF) airlifted supplies, personnel, and equipment totaling more than 108 tonnes on February 7, 2023. The NDRF, which consists of 100 self-contained rescue teams, travelled with their specialised tools, vehicles, and dog squads, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

These units have specialised tools for extrication, access, detection, and localization. Additionally, they will be able to carry out collapsed structure search and rescue (CSSR) missions.

Angle cutters, rotary rescue saws, victim location devices, life detectors, illumination equipment, air-lifting bags, chainsaws, hand and power tools, and other specialist equipment are among the items that these NDRF workers are carrying. Additionally, the specialised dog squads have been trained to find people trapped in collapsing buildings.

Along with supplies and about 99 Indian Army personnel who will set up a 30 bed facility in the field, the IAF’s transport aircraft also had equipment on board. In addition to having specialists in a variety of specialties, the medical team is equipped with ventilators, X-ray machines, an operating room, generators, and ambulances.

Syria:

The MEA reports that on late Tuesday night, IAF C130J transport planes transported about six tonnes of relief supplies, including three truck loads of supplies.This contained medications for use in an emergency, syringes, and tools like ECG machines, monitors, and other necessary medical supplies, as well as general and protective apparel.

The equipment was given to Syria’s deputy minister of local administration and environment, Moutaz Douaji, by India’s charge d’affaires S K Yadav, when the plane touched down at the airport in earthquake-devastated Damascus on Wednesday.

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive on Monday, India has been providing all necessary assistance to both Syria and Turkey as a result of the enormous destruction caused by the earthquake and the priceless lives lost in Syria.

Through bilateral and multilateral avenues, India has provided Syria with technical, development, and humanitarian aid over the years.

Along with sending relief supplies and search and rescue personnel, the US and the UK are two other nations that have provided humanitarian aid to the two nations.
