The Israeli drone entered Lebanon’s southern airspace, according to the Lebanese army’s claim on Friday. A security source claims the drone was not brought down.

Israel regularly flies military aircraft in Lebanon’s airspace without permission but it is rare for troops to target them.According to a statement from the Lebanese army, while a patrol was investigating a different incident in the south, a “drone belonging to the Israeli enemy breached Lebanese airspace,” which prompted soldiers to start shooting in its direction.

After years of negotiations facilitated by the United States, Lebanon and Israel decided to define their maritime border in October.

There is still disagreement regarding their shared geographical border.

A United Nations peacekeeper was murdered in December when his vehicle was shot at in southern Lebanon, where security is overseen by the potent anti-Israel Hezbollah party.
