Russia-Ukraine War: Attacks Continue On Kyiv, Moscow Says No ‘Christmas Ceasefire’

Ukraine’s capital Kyiv awoke Wednesday to blasts and air raid sirens, indicating that the city had been attacked by Iranian-made “Shahed” drones, according to reports from local officials.

The head of the Kyiv regional military administration, Oleksii Kuleba, warned residents that the air alert was still in effect and that civilians should seek shelter. The threat remains, so, remains in shelters.

The structures targeted by the drone attacks are unknown, but Kuleba said that Russia continues the country’s energy terror.

In other news, Belarusian military drills began on Tuesday, raising concerns about an escalation of the war in Ukraine, despite Ukraine’s armed forces saying they have not yet seen signs of the formation of enemy offensive groups along the Belarus-Ukraine border.

According to NBC News, Ukrainian and Polish military officials discussed the security situation on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border following a check on troop combat readiness in Belarus. They agreed to coordinate joint action in the coming days.

Belarus is bounded to the north by Ukraine and to the east by Poland. While Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly said that his country will not participate in the conflict, Belarus is Russia’s ally and has allowed Russia to launch attacks on Ukraine from its territory.

Russian forces are destroying everything in front of them, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

On the front lines, there is no peace. There is nothing easy or simple about it. Every day and every metre is fought for extremely hard, Zelenskyy said in his nightly Telegram address.

He added that Russia is destroying city after city in Donbas, such as Mariupol, Volnovakha, and Bakhmut.

Zelenskyy also thanked Ukrainian forces for repelling another attack by Iranian drones this morning.
