COMMISSIONING OF INDIAN NAVAL SHIP TARMUGLI

In a spectacular ceremony on December 14, 23 at Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam, the Indian Navy commissioned INS Tarmugli, a Fast Attack Craft, under the auspices of the Eastern Naval Command. The Chief of Materiel, Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani, was the ceremony’s principal guest.

The government of India gave the ship, a Trinkat Class FAC, to the Maldivian Naval Defence Forces (MNDF) in 2006. In May of this year, the ship was surrendered to the Indian Navy, which also gave the MNDF a Waterjet Fast Attack Craft that was operational—the new MCGS Huravee. After undergoing substantial restoration work at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, the FAC has taken on its current form once again.

The warship, which has 30 mm cannon, state-of-the-art radar technology, MTU engines, and the newest communication gear, will be heavily utilized for coastal surveillance and ODA protection in the KG Basin region of India’s east coast.

Under the direction of Cdr. Satpal Singh Sangwan, INS Tarmugli would function under the Naval Officer-in-Charge (Andhra Pradesh). The 46-meter ship, which bears the name of a charming island in the Andaman group, can move 320 tons and reach speeds of over 30 knots.
