Conduct of the Fifth Edition of AI Workshop at INS VALSURA, 09–11 AUGUST

INS Valsura in Jamnagar hosted the fifth iteration of the three day AI workshop on “Artificial Intelligence for the Future Fleet” from 09 to 11 Aug 23. VAdm MA Hampiholi, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, gave the keynote speech. In his keynote talk, he emphasized the initiatives made by the Indian Navy in the specialized field and emphasized the significance of AI and its applications for the future fleet.

The workshop witnessed insightful talks by Shri Abhishek Singh, IAS (MD & CEO of Digital India), Prof K Subbarao (Arizona State University), Dr Angshuman Ghosh (Founder and CEO at Menrva Technologies), Dr Amit Sighee (Director IBM Research India), Dr Swanand Deodhar (IIM Ahmedabad), Dr Apurva Joshi from Indrones, Mr. Mahesh Kshirsagar (Research and Innovation Lead, TCS), Dr Praneeth Netrapalli (Google Research), Prof Pushpak Bhattacharya (IIT Bombay) and Dr Monojit Choudhury, Microsoft Research (Turing India) over the span of three days. 
Several AI initiatives being led by the Indian Navy were presented by the Indian Navy Incubation Center for Artificial Intelligence (INICAI). Service officials from WESEE, the Indian Naval Academy, and INS Shakti also presented a number of technical papers on the most recent developments and applications of AI. On this occasion, a compilation of technical papers received from various Commands and Directorates at IHQ MoD(N) was also published.

More than 100 participants in person and 200 online, including students from engineering colleges around the nation and members of academia and the tri-services, participated in the program. The Commanding Officer of INS Valsura gave the concluding remarks. He congratulated the presenters and guests from various units on the completion of the fifth edition of the AI Workshop and emphasized the significance of utilizing this specialized technology.
