Vice Chief of Army Staff flags in Ceremony of NCC Boys & Girls Mountaineering Expedition 2023 to Mt. Thelu

On September 25, 2023, in New Delhi, Lt. Gen. MVS Kumar, Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS), flagged in NCC Boys & Girls Mountaineering Expedition-2023 to Mount Thelu (6002m). Speaking at the event, VCOAS expressed his appreciation for the expedition team’s efforts, which inspired cadets all around the nation. He said that this event made them more confident to take on several such activities that bring forth the qualities of leadership and camaraderie in the cadets.

Officers and NCC Cadets who completed this journey successfully received diplomas from him as well. The squad, which included 24 NCC Cadets (12 Boys & 12 Girls) from different NCC State Directorates, 17 NCC Instructors, and 5 Officers (including a medical officer), undertook a grueling 10-day initial training course at NIM, Uttrakashi. On September 8th, 2023, it arrived at Bhojbasa, the expedition’s base camp. On September 16, 2023, the first team led by Team Leader Col. Amit Bisht, SM and the second team led by Deputy Team Leader Major Saumya Shukla successfully ascended Mount Thelu.

The expedition team after successfully summiting Mt Thelu located in the Garhwal Region of the Himalaya, Uttrakhand came back to Bhojbasa Base Camp on 19 September, 2023.
