Defence Correspondents Course – 2023 Commences at ENC, Visakhapatnam

On August 21, 2023, Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Visakhapatnam hosted the start of the 2023 session of the Defense Correspondents school (DCC), a three-week school offered by the Ministry of Defence for selected journalists from National and Regional Media organizations. The opening address was given by Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena AVSM, NM Chief of Staff, ENC, and Shri A Bharat Bhushan Babu, Spokesperson (MoD) and Additional Director General (Media & Communication), provided a glimpse into the course’s defense journalism at the Maritime Warfare Center. The goal of DCC is to improve communication between the media and the military and to provide a pool of journalists at all levels with a better understanding of the Armed Forces and a working knowledge of the maritime environment.

 During the one-week naval attachment, the participants will be addressed by subject matter experts from within the Navy and the Coast Guard. The journalists will learn about a variety of facets of the Navy, such as naval operations, naval diplomacy, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and the organizational structure of the Navy and Coast Guard. On August 21, 2023, as part of the training, the participants toured the Indian Naval ship and submarine and received a briefing on various aspects of living there. The participants will also visit the Naval Dockyard, Naval Air Station, and Coast Guard ships at Visakhapatnam during this week as part of a scheduled tour. The course’s navy component culminates in a sea sortie aboard a front-line warship of the Indian Navy, giving the journalists a glimpse into maritime military operations.
